Columbo! Nick & Cave and the Bad Seeds! Wenders has packed up this wonderful 2 hour poem about (eternal) life with magnificent cameos. This film was later raped by Hollywood in the City of Angels. But Wings of Desire (UK title) is much more than a story about an angel who fells in love with a mortal ballet dancer. In fact so much more that it leaves one speechless. Seeing is believing and sometimes it's not necessary the explain things away. This is certainly one of the cases.

oh my God, perfect timing! I watched this last week and almost posted on it! good thing I didn't, because I wouldn't have come up with such an amazing screencap choice! Also congratulations on going with the original title with is so much more fitting. What a special film! "Compassionate" is the word that kept coming into my mind. They took a premise which might so easily have turned condescending and made it into such an unusually compassionate film. Like an angel hand on the shoulder!
ReplyDeleteeven though i'm once again repeating myself, great minds think alike i guess ;) please do post your review too, i actually watched this one um.. maybe on november? still remember it though like yesterday.
ReplyDeletecompassionate indeed, like watching the old man walking through the abandoned hay field of some sort and recollecting what once was berlin! beautiful!
