Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922), F.W. Murnau

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0013442/

****

It's strange to think this was actually planned, scripted, cast and filmed once: it's so much a part of the collective cultural subconscious, it feels like it was actually born there.

For a good while I was under the impression that the original title is Eine Symphonie des Graues (Gray) instead of Grauens (Horror), lol! I still find A Symphony of/in Gray to be a very fitting subtitle.

  2. I saw the Kinski remake, long before the original!!! I don't remembered that much about it...but Kinski in Herzog's Aguirre and Woyzeck comes to mind! I swear that man was possessed!! do you know who he made me think of in Woyzeck??? Grenouille in Perfume! you know I thought that book could never be appropriately adapted because they would need to have a lead that's physically and morally abhorrent become supremely charismatic? My God, I almost think Kinski might have pulled that off!!

  3. Funny you mention Perfume, as I am reading it at the moment, and I totally see your point, even though I have not yet seen W. I love Tykwer's movie to bits, but let's face it, that english fellow is way too pretty. Kinski could have pulled it off, i'm sure!

Kinski was such a fascinating person, gotta try to find books and what not about him.

  4. andra, herzog marathon ended and honestly, couldn't watch any of them 'till the end. dracula was the only one I almost could watch but the acting was so horrible,ha! I prefer the Coppola version, without Keanu though! ;)

Heart of glass was the only one I didn't see at all, that's a must anyways. Kinski was captivating though, what a madman!
